== History == The Economic Policy Institute was established in 1986 by '''Jeffrey Faux''' and other economists and policy experts to provide a counterbalance to conservative economic policies that were emerging in the 1980s. EPI was founded to promote policies that would benefit working Americans, particularly those in the middle and lower income brackets, who were often left behind in the growing economy. EPIβs research has since expanded to cover a wide range of issues affecting the U.S. economy, including employment, wages, inequality, health care, and education. The institute has become a leading voice in advocating for policies that promote broad-based economic prosperity and reduce economic inequality.
