== History == The Ludwig von Mises Institute was established in 1982 by economist and historian '''Murray Rothbard''' and others who shared a commitment to the ideas of Ludwig von Mises. The organization was founded with the goal of promoting Austrian economic theory and classical liberalism, which emphasizes the importance of individual freedom, free markets, and minimal government intervention. Initially, the Mises Institute focused on preserving the intellectual legacy of Ludwig von Mises and his contributions to economic theory, particularly in opposition to Keynesian economics and central planning. Over time, the institute expanded its focus to include advocacy for a free society, the study of economic history, and the promotion of libertarian political philosophy. The Mises Institute is headquartered at Auburn University in Alabama, where it operates a research center, holds seminars and conferences, and publishes a variety of educational materials.
