== History == The Peterson Institute for International Economics was established in 1981 as the Institute for International Economics (IIE), with the aim of providing objective and rigorous analysis of global economic issues. The organization was founded by Peter G. Peterson, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, who sought to create an independent research institution to inform economic policymaking in a rapidly changing global environment. In 2006, the institute was renamed the Peterson Institute for International Economics in honor of its founder’s contributions to the field of international economics and the institute’s expanding role in global economic research. Since its inception, PIIE has built a strong reputation for providing high-quality research and analysis on a wide range of global economic issues. It has become one of the leading think tanks focused on international economics and has influenced economic policy discussions in both the U.S. and abroad.
